15-19 April 2016
When we left Coachella after last year’s festival, we were both certain that we would return, but I didn’t expect it to be this soon. Well, when we got the opportunity to go back this year, and this time with friends, it wasn’t a very hard decision to make. It is definitely one of the best festivals around, not just because of the music but also due to the weather (you don’t need to worry about rain, ever), food & drink (proper craft beer, and a lot of it), people watching and the festival site itself.
The theme for this year definitely seemed to be big reunions, with LCD Soundsystem and Guns N’ Roses leading the charge. LCD Soundsystem was also what I looked forward the most to see, so I was really excited when they took the stage for Friday’s headline slot. Their gig definitely met my expectations!
A couple of other highlights were the Last Shadow Puppets, Sia, CHVRCHES, Alvvays, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Christine and the Queens and Of Monsters and Men. Guns N’ Roses were actually better than I expected, felt like a once in a lifetime experience… Even if Axl Rose was confined to to a Dave Grohl’s (Foo Fighters) throne after breaking his foot a couple of nights earlier.
We had a fabulous festival weekend, hanging out with friends, enjoying awesome gigs, good food and drinks and a lot of sun.
