Midsummer in London

Midsummer in London

You know how swedes get all stressed up before midsummer. Everything has to be perfect. The food, the company, the snaps, who has kubb? etc. You know the drill 🙂 Well this year, since we moved to London, we decided to take it a bit easy and spend midsummer in Hyde Park with about 3000 other swedes abroad. This midsummer celebration used to be managed by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce here in London, but a few years ago the rules changed for festivities in Hyde Park so they stopped. However, since then the swedes of London come together in a “spontaneous” picknick arranged by a group on Facebook.

Johan’s sister was here for the weekend so the three of us put together a midsummer pick nick with all the necessities like herring, eggs, salmon, potatoes, snaps, kalles kaviar, chives etc. We had decided to meet up with some friends so in the end we were around 10 people in our groups and we had a nice celebration, fantastic weather and the day turned out perfect. Funny how such a Swedish tradition follow the swedes all over the world. It’s almost like midsummer should be our national holiday instead of the 6th of June. Fell free to join us next year, wherever we are in the world. SkĂ„l!
