Summer holiday in Sweden

Time for the annual summer vacation trip to Sweden. This year we only had time for one week, and as always we went for the week of the Way Out West festival. And as always, it was a very busy week… But in a nice way as we love to meet all our friends and family!

Arriving in Gothenburg late on Friday, we stayed at my sister’s for the first night. As we hadn’t met her in a long while, it was nice to get some quality time to catch up. Saturday morning we jumped into the rental car and headed out to Mollösund, eager to get out on the coast and spend some time with my parents.

Of course, we had managed to go to Sweden on the worst week of the summer weather-wise, it was cold, rainy and windy, but we did the best of it. We went to the Pilane art exhibition, Skärhamn and the Nordic Watercolour Museum, and Maddie and my mother did morning yoga in Nösund. As I was in the middle of my marathon training, I did my weekly long run from Henån to Mollösund, very nice with a change of scenery and fresher air than I am used to in London.

On Wednesday we returned to Gothenburg for a dinner with friends before the festival kicked off on Thursday. It was my seventh Way Out West and our sixth together. We had a brilliant time, even if the lineup wasn’t as good as previous years, not to mention the weather… Definitely the muddiest year so far. It made the annual bourbon breakfast really long as no one wanted to go out in the rain.

Highlights included PJ Harvey, M83, Last Shadow Puppets, Daniel Norgren, Deportees and Chvrches, but as always it is hanging out with friends that is the most important part of any festival.

A bit weary but happy from an awesome week in Sweden we travelled back to London on Sunday morning.
